Let me introduce you to Barsheem ( Barsheem Bernard Fowler), a singer/songwriter from Brooklyn, NY whose debut album “What Is To Be Major” was released earlier this year to critical acclaim.
BARSHEEM SINGER/SONGWRITER Barsheem is a singer, songwriter, arranger and producer. His sound derives through many different genres; from Neo-Soul to R&B, Hip Hop to Pop and even Jazz. His influences include Marvin Gaye, Billie Holiday, Miles Davis, Tony Bennett, Joni Mitchell, Prince, Michael Jackson, and Shirley Horn among many others. A crooner, storyteller and showman, Barsheem believes in the power of words and melody. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York where he currently resides. His television and film credits include two episodes of NBC’s “American Dreams” and his feature film debut as part of the group, Little Albert and The Tru Tones in the major motion picture “Dreamgirls”.
He has recorded three CDs. 2005’s “Funktastic Party” and 2007’s “Funktastics in the Sky” as one half of the duo The Funktastics. In 2007, Barsheem took on the project (Fanny Fun Facts presents, Fanny and Friends Vol.1) as writer and arranger of all 12 songs. 2014 is looking to be a great year for Barsheem. His independent debut album was released, “What Is To Be Major”, he has released the beautiful ballad, “No One”, the mid tempo love song “Now”, a re-imagination of the Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell classic “If This World Were Mine” and (White World, Black World) Find Happy a song that focuses on racial equality and the pursuit of happiness.
While in the studio working on his debut, a copy of “(White World Black World) Find Happy” and “If This World Were Mine” got to the Marvin Gaye family. Jan and Nona Gaye fell in love with Barsheem’s sound and invited him to Washington DC to perform at Marvin Gaye’s 74th Birthday Celebration. Barsheem was overjoyed that he could participate in a celebration of his idols life. Riding on that wave, Barsheem is excited to make new fans, tour and promote his new album.
Barsheem‘s 14 track album combines Soul, Pop, R&B and Funk and has been compared to the likes of Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, John Legend and Bilal. This you is up and coming; so I would recommend Goddesses that you pick up his new CD; it’s lovely, just my speed. I love me some love songs.
