Red Nose Day returns this year to the U.S. on Thursday May 26, 2016. The day’s events will culminate in a two-hour live primetime TV special on NBC, featuring the biggest stars across comedy, music, TV and film.
What is it?
Red Nose Day is a campaign dedicated to helping children and having fun. Proceeds benefit children and young people in the US and some of the poorest communities in the world.
It launch in 1988, Red Nose Day has become something of a British institution. It’s the day, every two years, when people across the land can get together and do something funny for money at home, school and work 1988 to raise money for poverty-stricken children in the UK and Africa. Now, the fund-raiser has extended to the United States.
In 2015, the first Red Nose Day USA was launched, with the support of over 100 artists. Stars including Julia Roberts, Pharrell, Will Ferrell, Michelle Rodriguez, Reese Witherspoon, Jack Black and Ed Sheeran appeared on the NBC special. It raised more than $23 million, with the money now at work in all 50 states and in 15 countries internationally, funding programs to keep children and young people safe, healthy and educated.
Red Nose Day USA is run by Comic Relief Inc. which is an independent sister organization of Comic Relief UK. According to the Red Nose Day website, it’s raised more than £78 million (about $122 million at current exchange rates).

Boys & Girls Club of America provides access to safe, enriching after-school and summer programs.

Until June 4, 2016, for each Red Nose purchased Walgreens will donate $0.50; and for each Red Nose Flair item purchased (Beads, Bow Ties, Headbands, Sunglasses, Pens, Mugs, Cups and Hats) Walgreens will donate 10% of the purchase price to Comic Relief Inc.’s Red Nose Day Fund, which helps lift children out of poverty in the U.S. and overseas.
